When did Ford add crankcase ventilation to the Flathead, and why shouldn't I mix the breather parts?
Steve says Ford engineered a crankcase vent system from 1935 through 1953. On first- and second-generation engines it vents through an opening in the oil pan; on 1949–1953 engines it vents through the intake manifold. He warns that swapping the breather on an engine with no rear main seal can pressurize the crankcase and push oil out.
