How is the valve assembly built on a 1932–1948 Ford Flathead?

The valve stem has a tulip-shaped end, so the guide is made in two pieces to fit around it. Valve, guide, spring and retainer drop into the block as one assembly and are held by a clip from underneath. Steve says they are difficult to work on.
