How do you set valve clearance on a Ford Flathead?

With the original solid lifters there is no adjuster. Clearance is set by grinding the end of the valve stem, which means pulling the heads and the valve assembly, grinding, refitting and rechecking. Steve gives the clearance as about thirteen thousandths.
