Why is the 1936 block the one nostalgia racers want?

It keeps the 21 studs and head-mounted water pumps that the classes and the look call for, but has modern insert main bearings. Steve says that makes it more reliable and much cheaper to service than a babbitt block, which usually has to be shipped away to a specialist.
