Can I change the clutch or flywheel on an early Ford Flathead without removing the oil pan?

The clutch will come out, but the flywheel will not: its ring gear is too large for the opening. The oil pan, which runs to the back of the bellhousing, has to come off before the flywheel can be unbolted and dropped out.
