Why would you replace the stock distributor on a 1949–1953 Ford Flathead?
Ed says the stock unit has a single set of points and a vacuum advance, and it is hard to get the mechanical advance he wants from it. With more carburetion, such as a four-barrel, he wants more control of the spark under load.
