How can you change a Ford Flathead camshaft without removing the valves?

Pry each valve up and put a 3/8 wooden dowel under it, on all the valves. Turn the engine over, push the lifters out of the way and pull the cam. Fit the new cam, push the lifters back, remove the dowels and reset the valves.
