How were valves adjusted on a Ford Flathead with the original solid lifters?

There is no adjuster. To reach twelve thousandths you grind the seat to lower the valve or grind the end of the valve stem, one valve at a time, refitting each to check. Ed says it could take a couple of days, and he does not use these lifters.
