How do you get the exhaust valves out of a Ford Flathead, including one that will not come apart?

Put wooden blocks under all the valves, turn the engine upside down, push the lifters up and pull the cam, then take the lifters out. With no lifter in the way, each spring and retainer drops through the lifter bore once the keepers are out, and the guide can be driven down to free its lock.
