How did the 8BA valve train differ from earlier Ford Flatheads?
The 8BA adopted a straight-stem valve, one-piece guide, and more conventional retainer and keepers instead of the earlier tulip-style valve and two-piece guide. Steve says it was easier to service, although valve lash still required grinding the valve tip.
