Why does a narrow Model A frame decide the exhaust on a Flathead swap?

The engine is going into a Model A. Ed says the Model A frame is so narrow that it sits right under the exhaust bolts, which is why he chose this exhaust. A friend's Model A and Model T use the same motor with the same water pumps and belts.
