What is Cosmoline and why is it on a new old stock engine block?
Steve describes Cosmoline as a wax-based preservative put on machined metal parts to protect the metal and finish in storage or transport; it has to be cleaned off before use. Ed adds that it kept salt water and corrosion off parts shipped overseas, and that he does not know of a chemical that washes it right off.
