camshaft · FF-0159
How should a camshaft be chosen for a performance Flathead?
Steve says the cam has to be matched to everything else: cylinder heads, valve size, compression ratio, bore and stroke, porting, and where the torque peak should be for the car's use. The cam controls when the valves open, how long, and the overlap. Cams cost about the same whatever the grind, so pick the specification first; choose wrong and the engine will disappoint.
