Can a late-model Ford transmission bolt to an early Flathead bell housing?

Ed shows a late-model Ford transmission with a column-shift side-shift cover. It has the same center bolts as the Flathead bell housing and also the late-model bolts on the outside, which he says would fit a 302 Ford such as a Mustang. That lets the late-model transmission go on the old Flathead with this bell housing.
