What drivetrain is behind Joe Abbin's blown Flathead, and how quick is the car?
Because he bracket races it, Joe runs a C4 automatic with a 2,400 rpm high-stall converter, which he says the blown engine loves, and a 9-inch rear end with a Detroit Locker and 4.11 gears. He says the car goes 0 to 60 in three and a half seconds and weighs 2,540 pounds with all its fenders and hood. He wanted a rugged drivetrain after breaking about half of the old 1939 gearboxes and original rear ends in his Gasser days.
