What did Ed Smith make of his first Flathead dyno test?
Ed says he had never dynoed a Flathead Ford before. He expected about 300 horsepower and that is what it made, with oil pressure and temperature fine. He says the engine was pulled to about 5,700 rpm with peak power at 5,300, where in the old days 3,000 to 3,500 was about the most a Flathead ever turned. He credits the headers for helping, and notes that the center pipe, which carries two cylinders, ran a lot hotter than the end two.
