How did hot rodders end up using ARDUN heads?

Once the truck market was gone, hot rodders of the day, many of them back from the war and wanting to go fast on the salt flats or the drag strip, saw the heads as a way to get more power from a Flathead. Steve says the early heads had significant problems, but Southern California hot rodders refined them and got impressive results at Bonneville in the late 1940s and early 1950s. Overhead valve engines from Chevrolet, Ford and others then made the converted Flathead obsolete for racing.
