How are broken head studs removed from a Flathead block in Ed's shop?

On screen, Ed and Efrain work on the stubs with an oxy-acetylene torch, heating each one while a work light is held on the hole. The holes are then blown out with compressed air and looked into to see what came out and whether any threads were lost, and the block is left to cool before the next try.
