How many head studs broke on this 1938 Flathead, and how do the holes look afterward?

Barry observes that more than half of the studs snapped off, and Ed agrees. After the torch work the holes shown are fairly clean, with a little slag left in the bottom of some. The work is summed up as heating and beating, taking care not to get into the threads.
