Why does the thickness above the combustion chamber matter on a blower head?
To make the chamber bigger on a stock or aftermarket head you machine away the roof above the valves, and that eats into what Steve calls the margin. He uses the thickness Ford chose for a low-compression 1930s engine as a starting point, because he finds Ford parts are well engineered. He notes that this is not a supercharged head.
