Do stock cast iron Flathead heads make good blower heads?
Steve says they do. The factory Ford heads had a fairly large chamber; this Mercury version is a little smaller if he remembers right, but still in the range. He puts them in the mid to upper 70s in cc, which gives about 7.5 to 8:1, perfect for low-boost blowers. The Mercury roof looks a little thicker to him than the aluminum Ford head, and he treats it as a benchmark for a stock engine, noting that a blower raises cylinder pressure under boost.
