dyno basics · FF-0381
What has to be working on an engine before it goes on a dyno?
Everything. Steve says the engine has to be set up to run just as if it were in a car or truck: fuel, cooling, exhaust and ignition all have to be dealt with first. That is different from dropping an engine into a car, where the carburetor and headers are usually off and some of that work is done in the car.
