Why are the intake passages trimmed off on some ARDUN blocks?
It is a Don Ferguson signature. Steve says Don's team put this block together, and Don told him that a block with the intake passages trimmed off is probably one of his. The habit goes back to Don's father: with big hands it was hard to reach into the valve area, so the passages were trimmed. There is no functional reason for it.
