How do ARDUN heads guard against coolant leaking past the head studs?
Every Flathead head stud is wet: its threaded hole runs into the water passages, so the threads have to be sealed. On a regular Flathead a leak is a nuisance that drips outside. On an ARDUN the studs are under the valve covers, so a leak goes straight into the oil. As a backup, the stud holes in the head are chamfered, an O-ring goes around each stud in the chamfer, and a thick ARP-style chrome moly washer tightens down on it, making a second seal in addition to the sealant on the threads.
