Why is it hard to buy parts and gaskets for a 1938 Flathead?

You have to buy 1938 parts, and Ed says most stores that carry gaskets at a reasonable price stock them for 1949 to 1953. The gasket set for this engine came with two oil pan gaskets, because the 1935 pan gasket is different from the 1938 one.
