How do you set ignition timing for a first start, and what is the first run for?
Steve set the timing as best he could by looking at the timing marks and setting the distributor where he thinks it will start. He has a timing light and tools to adjust idle speed, but will not adjust idle mixtures; that waits for the dyno. The goal is to make sure the engine starts and runs, maybe long enough to check the timing and set the idle if it is too high or too low.
