supercharging · FF-0457
How do you size a supercharger for a Flathead, and why a Weiand 177 on this engine?
The four-barrel intake comes off and an intake made for a supercharger goes on. The 177 is the cubic inches of air the blower moves per revolution. Steve's rule of thumb is a blower of about half the engine's displacement, and this engine is about 289 cubic inches: a four-cycle engine has only four intake strokes per revolution, so half the displacement is about what it needs on every turn. Then you overdrive or underdrive the blower to get the boost you want.
