Does an ARDUN Flathead need more oil capacity?
Steve says yes, though plenty have been built with the stock pan and seem fine. The heads add a lot of oil up top, and it drains back through one 3/8 inch tube on each side, so the pump sends up more than drains back. At 6,000 RPM on the dyno, oil stays in the valve covers. On the highway the stock pan probably works; his engine has an eight-quart pan, against about four and a half to five stock.
