Does a Flathead need a windage tray?

For most Flatheads, especially stock ones that run 3,000 or at most 3,500 RPM, Steve thinks a windage tray is probably not necessary at all: there is not enough crank speed to make much difference. The supercharged engines he has been dyno testing spin 5,700 to 5,800 RPM, and there he thinks the tray does matter, though he says he does not know how much. That is why he always picks the Mercury pan with the tray when he builds an 8BA.
