Why will an 8BA oil pan not fit a 59AB Flathead block?

Steve says the 8BA pan will not fit the 59AB block because it is a different design. The 59AB pan is similar to the 1932 to 1948 pans: part of the bell housing is built into the block, the oil pan bolts to that, the starter bolts there, and the transmission bolts right to the oil pan and the block. The one he shows has a removable cover. None of these pans ever had a windage tray.
