Why is a windage tray harder to fit in a 59AB pan than in a Mercury pan?

The 59AB pan's sides are not straight up and down, so the baffle has to fit down in a tapered section. In the Mercury pan the sides are straight, so a baffle of the right width slides right down and you tack weld or weld it in place. Here it has to be wide enough to do its job and still get down in there; you have to turn it sideways to get it in.
