How is the windage tray checked around the oil pump pickup?

With the tray in, there is slop around the pickup, which Steve says means it fits; Hayden says the hole can be made a touch bigger if needed. The tubes are very flexible and sometimes get bent, and after a small adjustment it fits. The slot Steve asks about was laid out 4 inches from the far edge with a 1-inch width.
