Why does the cluster gear have to drop before an early Ford three-speed comes apart?
Ed wants to drop the cluster gear down first, and then everything else will come apart. One set of teeth is bigger and hits, so the gear cannot be pulled out. Once the cluster is knocked out it will fall about half an inch in the case, and then the rest can be worked on.
