Do 1949 to 1953 Flatheads need the oil galley plug?
No. On the late model 1949 to 1953 Flatheads the oil galley bypasses the fuel pump push rod shaft and goes straight over to the cam, nowhere near it. The plug is only for the early model; Barry calls those the first series, 1932 to 1938, and Ed agrees.
